Palm Pre Updates we want to see now

Hardware Reviews - By: pdaBlast! Staff - September 06, 2009

The Palm Pre has been out for a couple months now and we've been using it religiously. It's alright, but we expected a little more. Compared to the iPhone 3GS it's slow, but Multitasking is definitely cool!

Palm has been issuing updates, but it seems like the progress is slow. We would like to see the following updates for the Palm Pre now...

Updates:
  • Faster performance. Launching applications is simply too slow on the Pre.
  • Faster boot times.
  • Hanging up the phone when you slide the keyboard shut should be an option.
  • Landscape mode in all major apps (mail, calendar, contacts, etc.) without typing a hack.
  • Video recording capabilities.
  • Optional Today Screen.
  • Toggle navigator for better navigation without using the touch screen.
  • Ability to download files from browser and store them where you wish.
  • File Manager application
  • Quick Text in Chat
  • Graphical smilies in Chat
  • An icon to tell you what service you're using in the messaging app (i.e. Gtalk, SMS, etc.)
  • Consistent cropping of contact photos
  • Categories for Contacts
  • Synergy with more services (i.e. Yahoo, Myspace, Flickr, Picasa, etc.)
  • Email notifications should include the contact photo.

    Palm Pre Pros:
  • Multitasking
  • Synergy
  • Touchstone charger (very cool!)
  • Physical keyboard (even though this one isn't very good)

    Palm Pre Cons:
  • Battery life is pathetic and in some cases might be a deal breaker. We highly recommend the Seidio extended battery at the link below.
  • Small screen size.
  • Very small keyboard.
  • No SD card support.
  • Silent mode vibrate is too subtle.
  • No Today Screen.
