William Shatner uses a Palm Pre

It looks like William Shatner (aka Captain James T. Kirk) is a Palm Pre user. Why not right? The Pre does look like something that could have come out of Star Trek.
During a recent taping of a segment for The New York Times’ online Screen Test series, Mr. Shatner takes a call from his daughter Melanie on a Palm Pre. Check out this video where you can clearly see the Pre in the video, and can hear the default ringtone.

We are all expecting WebOS 2.0 to be released this year and Palm is definitely heading in that direction. The company has put out a limited release of the WebOS 2.0 SDK today. That means developers can play with the new features coming down the pike for WebOS 2.0.

The old days of struggling to overclock your Palm Pre are over. With new kernels and overclocked backed into Preware, the process is just a couple of clicks away. If you're not up on Homebrew Apps and how to get them on your Pre you can start with PreCentral's guide at the link below.

Angry Birds coming to WebOS very soon

It looks like the most popular game on the iOS platform is going to make its way to WebOS. EverythingPre reports it has had discussions with the developer of the game and the only hold up is an issue with running it on the Palm Pixi. We say, release the Pre version now and add Pixi support later, but we'll see what the developer decides.
EverythingPre's discussion with the developer confirms the webOS version will be receiving the newest level packs 2 and 3.

HP says WebOS tablet coming in early 2011

During an earnings conference call today, HP answered a question about tablets hurting netbooks sales, by publicly confirming a WebOS tablet is on the way. This isn't much of a surprise as most of us have expected this for some time, but he HP rep said we can expect "a webOS-based product in Early 2011." That pretty much says it all.
Maybe they can call it the PreTab.

Why is it that Palm never released a Palm Pre Plus on Sprint? The early adopters of the Palm Pre were Sprint users, but they got the shaft when Palm never provided an updated phone with more memory, and a better slider and keyboard. Sprint has posted a changelog for the webOS 1.4.5.1 update, and has confirmed the update will go out today, August 10. So far, the update has not been released but we'll see.

HP CEO Resigns amid sexual harassment investigation

HP's CEO Mark Hurd has resigned. The Wall Street Journal reports Mr. Hurd resigned because of a sexual-harassment investigation surrounding his relationship with a contractor. Mr. Hurd said:
“As the investigation progressed, I realized there were instances in which I did not live up to the standards and principles of trust, respect and integrity that I have espoused at HP and which have guided me throughout my career.”

HP will use webOS on all smartphones, drops Windows Phone

HP is moving full steam ahead with its plans for Palm's OS. Despite recently saying that Palm may become a "sub-brand," the company is moving ahead with plans to put webOS on a variety of devices including smartphones, and netbooks.

Palm Pre gets 1.05 Ghz overclock

We've seen the Pre get overclocked to 720Ghz and 800Ghz before, but now some overclocking wizard named Thunderchief is taking it to a new level. He has managed to get the Pre up to 1.05Ghz. As you can see in the video the Pre is smoking fast at 1Ghz.
This overclock is not for the casual user at this point and is still in Alpha. In addition to the 1Ghz overclock, Thunderchief's kernels enable Compache, which brings compressed RAM swapping to the Pre.

It's official. Palm will be acquired by HP. Palm has just filed an 8-K report with the SEC:
