On the heels of the big announcement yesterday that HP is dumping webOS devices, Engadget sat down with HP's Stephen DeWitt, head of HP's webOS global business unit. The nuts and bolts of the interview suggest that HP is still continuing support of webOS, but just not the hardware. If this is true, it really makes me wonder why HP did things the way they did.
Why not line up some licensees before announcing you're out of the business?
Why was Jon Rubinstein moved out of the webOS group a few months ago?
Why did it seem like the order came from the top and took everyone below by surprise?
Why did it take so long to get out webOS devices when they weren't even top tier devices?
Why at the same time is there talk of spinning off the PC business?
I have no insight to what's going on at HP, but it sure seems like Mr. DeWitt is out of the loop and the decision to drop webOS came from above him.
