Palm's webOS 1.4 is buggy

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - March 01, 2010

After playing with webOS 1.4 for a couple of days we have found it to be buggy. We've had to reboot our Pre several times because the OS gets very sluggish and things don't work right. It almost seems like there is some sort of memory leak yet we don't have anything running.

The mail app is especially problematic. First of all it takes a long time to load. Also, now when you open the mail app it doesn't open your default account's mailbox or the last mailbox that was open, but instead opens the main list of mailboxes. This means it now requires two clicks to get to Gmail. Also, when launching a message from an alert it takes a really long time to load, and sometimes does not load.

Several apps don't work right after the webOS 1.4 update. Launchpoint and Tweed are a couple that come to mind. The developers will likely issue updated apps which should help.

With all the promise of webOS 1.4 we're disappointed. The new video recording feature is nice, but the overall performance of our Pre has gone down. Could our hardware be a problem? Maybe, but it was working perfectly just before we did the update. Let's hope Palm fixes these issues ASAP.
