Palm Pre gets unofficial virtual keyboard

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - September 01, 2009

One of the most requested features for the new Palm Pre is an on screen virtual keyboard. Palm has yet to provide a virtual keyboard, but the third party developers are hard at work.

Check out this video of an add on virtual keyboard. It looks promising. We've downloaded and installed it on our Pre and it works, but there are a few bugs. It still looks quite promising though.

The backspace key does not seem to work in a Google web page search. It works in the Pre's global search but if you're in a Google web page, it doesn't work.

The keyboard doesn't always come up when you double tap the gesture area. There seems to be some question about how fast or slow you should double tap to make the keyboard come up.

The installation is not simple. You'll need to download some software and put your Pre into developer mode. It's not difficult, but you'll need to follow the directions. Check out all the particulars at the Source link below.
