German supermarket uses cell phone checkout
News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - July 03, 2008

A German supermarket chain has introduced a new way to checkout your items. In the new chain of stores, customers can pay for their purchases with a specially adapted mobile telephone.

"The Future Store" was recently opened near Duesseldorf. Customers pick up a specially adapted phone when they come to the store. When they pick something up for purchase they scan the barcode by taking a picture with their phone. At the end of their shopping trip they place the phone in a machine at the door. A barcode is displayed on the phone and they can pay via credit card, debit card, or cash.

See the link below for a special BBC video on the process.
