Palm has released a software update for the Palm Centro smartphone. The update provides several enhancements to the centro. The update can be downloaded from Palm's support web site at the link below.

This news cannot be good for the smartphone market. Sony Ericsson's Q2 profits have fallen by a whopping 97%. The company knew their profits would fall in the second quarter but nobody predicted a 97% drop.

The Treo 800w is finally here. Sprint released the device yesterday (odd to release it on a Sunday). Engadget has an unboxing gallery for those who want pictures of the device. Several sites are posting reviews and we'll likely do the same shortly.

Palm has announced that its MyPalm online portal for Treo and Centro owners will close on September 1st, 2008. No reason for the closure was given. It is probably just a cost-cutting move as Palm has not been doing well as of late, although how much would they really save by cutting this web site?

Palm's official Blog reports a new electric blue version of the Palm Centro will be released Friday on AT&T. Isn't it interesting that Friday is the day that the much anticipated iPhone 3G will be released. It looks like Palm is trying to go head to head with Apple on this one.

It looks like Sprint will get the jump on Verizon when it launches the Treo 800w on July 13. According to PhoneArena, leaked documents indicate that Sprint will have the exclusive on the Treo 800w. The documents even suggest that Sprint will have better pricing. What gives? Who knows.

A German supermarket chain has introduced a new way to checkout your items. In the new chain of stores, customers can pay for their purchases with a specially adapted mobile telephone.
"The Future Store" was recently opened near Duesseldorf. Customers pick up a specially adapted phone when they come to the store. When they pick something up for purchase they scan the barcode by taking a picture with their phone. At the end of their shopping trip they place the phone in a machine at the door...read more
Palm has posted a ROM update on its web site for the Verizon Palm Treo 755p. Precise details of what the update fixes aren't listed but Palm says "this software update is a tune-up that improves the phone application, stability and device usability."
The update is for Verizon's version of the Treo 755p only. Make sure you do the usual backups before installing the update. The process should take about 45 minutes.
